How To Care For Your Computer

Testimonials

Before I got my current internship at the Tech Department  at South Plantation High School. I had three options that I was willing to consider for my internship. My first option was to go back to an internship that  I did in eleventh  grade called Gulfstream Elementary but I wasn't able to return back to that internship for technical reasons. My second option was to do an internship at South Plantation High School  doing Computer Engineering, but sadly there was  miscommunication between my potential mentor and myself about me starting my internship and unfortunately that resulted in me not being able to do that apprenticeship with him. My third option for my internship came for one of the current adviser from Pathways, Ms. Rosario (one of the computer tech teachers at South). After I told her what happened to my second option, she told me that one of her former students is now running their own company called CPU Squad and they were interested in having interns. Things were going great, emails were being sent back and forth between me and the former student, but due to some personal issues I wasn't able to start the internship with that mentor.

Finally, I sat down with my adviser, Kelly Oddone and we brainstormed some more ideas for internships. Ms. Oddone came up with the idea to do an internship here at South Plantation High School in the tech department with Joe Holmes and Kadeem Lewis as my mentors. At my internship I help out Mr. Holmes and Mr. Lewis with tech-related issues around SPHS and they send me on small alternative jobs around the school. They gave me a lot of side jobs to do for them, some of them were tediuous One of the jobs that they sent me on was to set up a printer for a teacher, and another was to set up a PC for another teacher.

ABOUT

ME

My name is Gordon Saunders, I'm seventeen years old and I'm a senior from South Plantation High School and I'm apart of Pathways of Innovation. My main interest that I'm very passionate about is  computers and art. When picking my internship, I wanted to see where it tied in with my interests. I didn't want to go to an internship just for the sake of going to an internship and being out of school that one day. I wanted my  internship this year for me to be meaningful. When I had the opportunity to intern at the tech department at South,at first I was apprehensive. I didn't know if I wanted to do the internship at first, but I went in there with a open mind. As the weeks went by, I grew to love my  internship. My mentors made me feel like I was apart of a team. Every job they sent me on, every lesson they taught me, made me realize that I loved working with computers

This internship has really opened my eyes to what I want to pursue as a career after college. With my other internship it was slightly involved with what I wanted as a career but it never really opened my eyes like this internship has. As a career I want to be either a graphic designer or a computer programmer. With all of this new found knowledge I can't wait to start my life after college. I just want to give special thanks to Ms. Oddone for helping me obtain this internship, and extra special thanks to Mr. Holmes and Mr. Lewis for taking me under their wings as their intern.
